Summary:
Senator Rafferty of York would establish the Maine Consumer Privacy Act. It applies to the collection and sale of all personal information collected by a business from consumers. Because the new Act covers Internet service providers, this bill repeals the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 35-A, chapter 94 to keep all entities on equal footing, allowing consumers to opt out of the sale of personal information. The Maine Consumer Privacy Act takes effect January 1, 2023.
