UPDATE 1/27/22: The Committee amended the bill to remove tobacco tax increases and instead clarified that funds provided for tobacco cessation should be used for tobacco cessation. It received an unanimous vote of support from the committee.
UPDATE 2021: The House tried to pass the bill, but failed. Consequently, the legislature decided to carry over the bill to 2022.
Representative McCreight of Harpswell increases the cigarette tax from $2.00 per pack of 20 cigarettes to $4.00 per pack of 20 cigarettes, beginning November 1, 2021.
